NEW EPISODE LIVE 1 PM EST!! What if one of the biggest problems with American politics is that we’ve started treating it like sports?
Political scientist and author Ben Darr joins the show to explain how Team Red vs. Team Blue can turn citizens into fans — cheering when their side wins, defending their own team’s mistakes, and treating the other side like a rival instead of asking whether politics is actually making life better.
We discuss the ideas behind Ben’s book This Is No Game, the rise of prediction markets and political betting, why election night increasingly resembles the Super Bowl, his own journey across the political spectrum, Bernie Sanders and the 2016 election, the political aftermath of COVID, how his students have changed over 15 years of teaching, whether younger Americans are becoming more skeptical of both parties, and why AI may pose an even deeper challenge to the way humans think and interact.
