Dr. JonRobert Tartaglione is a psychologist and behavioral scientist who studies what moves people – what are the factors that shape people’s attitudes, shift their decisions, and change their behavior. Ken Balbuena has served in a variety of community roles, including civic association president, PTA president, chair of the Fairfax County Public Schools’ Adult and Community Education Advisory Committee, board member of Visit Fairfax (the County’s official travel and tourism board), member of the Future of Lake Accotink Task Force, and member of the Fairfax County Consolidated Community Funding Pool Selection Advisory Committee. Several of his community service positions have been through political appointments from both Republican and Democratic elected officials. He has served on numerous nonprofit boards and served as a youth sports coach.

On a personal level, Balbuena survived a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2017 and credits his Catholic faith as a key factor in his miraculous survival. He and his wife, Kristy, are proud parents of two children attending Fairfax County Public Schools in the Annandale High School pyramid. Making his community as best as it can be for his daughters is a top motivator for Balbuena’s desire to become the next Braddock District Supervisor.

Passionate about preserving green spaces, Salman helped lead the successful and nationally prominent campaign to save Park Road Allotments – a century-old wildlife haven established to feed wounded soldiers returning from the First World War – from being bulldozed by one of Britain’s richest landowners, the Duke of Northumberland.

Born in Norwich in 1984, Salman graduated with a Double First in Social & Political Sciences from Jesus College, Cambridge, before going on to complete the Creative Writing MA at the University of East Anglia. He now lives in Brentford, West London.

Theodore H. Schwartz, MD graduated Magna Cum Laude in Philosophy and English from Harvard University and Magna Cum Laude in Neuroscience from Harvard Medical School. He was named David and Ursel Barnes Professor in Minimally Invasive Surgery, the first endowed professorship in the department, Vice-Chairman of Clinical Research, the Director of Anterior Skull Base and Pituitary Surgery, Co-Director of Surgical Neuro-Oncology, the Director of Epilepsy Surgery, and ran a basic science laboratory investigating the causes and treatment for epilepsy. He has received K08, R01 and R21 funding from the NINDS for his research and has served on several NIH review committees.

Dr. Schwartz’s book Gray Matters: A Biography of Brain Surgery, published by Dutton/Penguin-Random House, was selected by The Economist as one of the best books of 2024. His nonfiction writing has been featured in the Wall Steet Journal, the Boston Globe, Psyche Magazine, and The Psychologist. Dr. Schwartz is currently the Founder and CEO of a med tech device company called illumination Diagnostics.
